We feel so grateful to be here at this hospital with Olive receiving such wonderful care. They even have her little head resting on water pillows.

You don't know me, but Paul and Lori have alerted me to your situation. We are praying for little Olive. Praise the Lord she seems to be doing better. I can't imagine what you must be going through.

I don't know what to say - but I know that when our daughter was going through cancer treatments, we received every post/comment with such gratitude, and so I write - to say how much I think and pray for you all... to say how much I've learned from you, Rusty and Lynette, about staying in God, about being with God in the storm...
I'm preaching from Psalm 84 tomorrow. The NIV translates verse 5: Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have their heart set on pilgrimage. The Hebrew simply states, 'highways (are) in their hearts' which lends to the completely legitimate Eugene Peterson translation: "How blessed are those in whom You live, whose lives become roads you travel."
All that to say - you, Rusty, are a God-traveled road. You, Lynette, are a God-traveled road. You, beautiful Olive, are a God-traveled road.
You will go from strength to strength until each of you appear before God in Zion.

Dear Rusty and Lynette, reading your blog feels so much like our journey over the past 4 months. We were living in Laos and working with World Concern before we had to rush back to New Zealand for the birth of our son Samuel, who was born on 6 June and spent 2 months in NICU. He wasn't premature but has a rare syndrome which means he doesn't have a functioning bowel and his kidneys and bladder are badly damaged from the urine pressure in-utero. The NICU doctors had given up on him as well, but miraculously - at the point where we were planning his funeral, he slowly turned the corner and has gradually improved to the point that after 4.5 months we have just got him home. We too have known God's faithfulness and comfort and have been upheld by the prayers of many through the darkest moments when all hope seemed lost. We can completely relate to your emotions, frustrations and roller-coaster ride that you are both on, and want you to know that we will be praying that the Lord will give you the strength to make it through each day. Our friend Kurt brought our attention to your blog and gave us this verse which I will leave with you: 2 Cor 1:3 'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God'.
