missing the kids and staff at the Akha Youth Development Center.
my Thai teacher.
the nurses in Chiang Rai & Bangkok who cared for Olive.
i miss going to the market and buying fruits & veggies and freshly killed pig for dinner.
waking up to chickens crowing.
tucking in the littlest hostel kids and praying together before bed when they are crying and homesick.
bubble tea at the market in huisan prapbla.
studying thai...speaking thai.
i even miss the hostel kids faking being sick at 5:30 in the morning hollering "P Lynette!!!!!" at the top of their lungs at my front door until i stumbled out of bed to take their temperatures.
Doi Chang Coffee.
sad to be missing out on plowing and preparing the rice fields for planting
the night sky where the stars seem brighter than any other place on earth.
i miss hearing Gee whine about his back hurting because of how hard he worked driving the kids to school on the bus. :>)
pad makeua (friend eggplant with garlic and pork).
mobile Clinics.
i miss Yosu's giggle and blue sunglasses.
long tandem bike rides into town sweating bullets.
motorbike rides home during sunset.
lynchee season.
i miss being pregnant with Olive in Thailand and life before my world turned upside down.
i miss when life seemed simple.
when future decisions seemed clear cut.
i miss lying in bed at night when Olive would have her routine aerobics session as I was trying to fall asleep.
i miss waking up with her kicking me when I would roll onto my belly and accidentally squish her in my delirious slumber.
the truth is that life has become messy, confusing, and overwhelming.
though in having my heart gouged out I've gained a new understanding of the depth of my ability to love another human...a very small human with big eyes that seemed to know more than doctors gave her credit for.
my black and white world has become a shade of gray.
simple answers are feeling less and less adequate... and I'm trying to just be ok with that.
trying to stay calm. trying to be okay with sitting in a place without clear answers and filled with tension.
trusting that this is part of the journey too.
trying to stay calm. trying to be okay with sitting in a place without clear answers and filled with tension.
trusting that this is part of the journey too.
i have hope that I won't always be here, in this place.
but for now here i sit.
and i'm okay with that.
some of the time anyways.

oh honey i just love you so much and wish i could make everything different.
I understand how you feel when your whole perception of reality changes forever and sometimes all you want to do is go back but you know you can't. I hope that you can go back to Thailand soon to be with the people you love and the things you enjoy.
Thanks for this post, Lynette. It's like climbing inside your head a little bit to see life out of your eyes. Thinking of you and Rusty and Olive so often...
Thank you again for sharing your heart. I still think of you guys and Olive often. May you know peace as you are making decisions and plans for the future. Love you guys x
I still think of you and beautiful little Olive so often. I pray that God is so close to you over the days, months, and years. Know that there are so many of us out here, still remembering you, still praying for you.
Oh Lynette~ Never thought of your how very very different this culture is for you. I know that in theory~but to have you describe all the differences...it's an eye opener. Right now is such a very different "new normal" for you. Sorry for this turn in events. Hope you have clarity with every step. Heart heart.
Thailand misses you too. We'll be glad to have you back when you're ready! Much love!
there are always so many things I want to say, and yet I don't b/c I don't want to say the wrong thing. our lives are completely different and yet I have a small understanding of the season of gray and no longer having clear cut answers. I hope you find hope in His truth and love. that's the only place I've found mine. and I've realized that in the midst of the junk I'm in the middle of, I'd still rather have Him than do it on my own. love you friend.
I was sitting the other day and allowed myself to daydream a bit and then my mind wandered to Olive and to you and Rusty and I started crying...I cannot imagine the pain that you go through on a daily basis and I can't imagine how hard it is for you, I just want you to know that I am praying for you constantly and wishing there was something I could do to bring some sort of happiness to you! Love you lots. xx
Can't believe it has been four months since Olive died . . . my heart breaks reading this wishing I could make things different. Love you so much it hurts.

Hello Lynette, i pray that the Lord will give you signs that he is near, and renewed strength as you face these grey days, and show you glimpses of colour in the sorrow

I still read your blog, but mostly I lurk because I don't know what to say. I just pray. This was a beautiful and eloquent post. I still pray for all of you.
